About Petra

Ever since I was a child I had a sense of wonder. I remember the first time I looked at a world map when I was eight years old and thought that it looked like a big puzzle that at one point was all connected. Later at University when I took Oceanography and learned about Plate Tectonics I realized that my intuition had been right. 299 million years ago (give or take a few million) we had all been connected on this big landmass called Pangea and many hearts beat as ONE. Today I realize more than ever that we are more alike than we are different and that our strength lies in our capacity to love beyond borders and beliefs and to come to truly understand, on a very deep level, that we only benefit individually if we ALL benefit as a whole. We are all connected in some way or another on this journey we call life on planet Earth. There is Love and Beauty all around us and we can trust that whenever we choose to see it and connect with it, it is there for us.

My art work is my journey into my inner space to find that Love and Beauty within myself and everything around me. I love the ocean. It breaths life into me every time I see it, feel it, smell it, touch it. I love the endless whispers of the clouds and trees and the steadfast snow-capped mountains. I am blessed to be living in one of the most beautiful parts of the world and I am so grateful to call the Sunshine Coast my home.

But there are many places we can call home on this physical and emotional plane; from the first home we grew up in to our home on planet earth. The word Home has a very broad bandwidth and can mean many things to many people.

For me, it is that soft place to fall, where I find my stillness, my joy and solitude and my connection to nature and all beings. That is where I can hear the whispers and longings of my heart and the Love that I see all around me.

So I paint, in the hopes that this Love will expand into infinite ripples, like a pebble dropped into a vast, still pond. The Love that is unconditionally there for us …always and in all ways.
